US Embassy in Nairobi to Give 40 Scholarships to 2018 KCSE Top Performers

The United States Embassy in Nairobi has announced a plan to offer scholarships to 2018 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) top performers.

The Embassy says it will give scholarships to 40 students who scored A- and above under the EducationUSA Scholars Program (ESP).

“Our (Education) office seeks to identify and recruit 40 academically strong Kenyan students who scored A- and above in the 2018 KCSE, to join the EducationUSA Scholars Program (ESP),” the embassy says in a statement on its website.

Interested candidates have until February 18th, 2019 to apply for the scholarships and must have scored at least an A- in both Mathematics and English as well as demonstrate strong leadership skills.

Selected candidates will get free membership to the EducationUSA Advising Centers located in Nairobi, Nakuru, and Mombasa.

“The program is not limited geographically; however, students must be able to reach our offices in Nairobi, Nakuru or Mombasa as required for full participation."

The ESP takes students through training sessions in order to help them make applications for admission and financial aid to prestigious US universities.

“Students will work with the EducationUSA Adviser and interns in 2019/2020 to try and secure admission and financial aid from U.S. universities. Admitted students will begin their studies in the U.S. in August 2020,” reads the statement.

Applicants must also submit letters of recommendation and personal statements.

“Applying to highly selective universities and for scholarships requires excellent secondary school grades. The SAT and the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) are required for most applicants, as are letters of recommendation and personal statements,” reads the statement.
