Joho Sues Four Jubilee Leaders for Linking Him to Drug Trafficking

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has sued four politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto for linking him to narcotics trade.

This comes after the 24-hour ultimatum issued to the four Jubilee party leaders to apologize to Joho over the allegations elapsed.

In court documents filed by Ochieng’ K. & Associates, Joho accuses the four; Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, MPs Oscar Sudi (Kapseret) Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu) and Kimilili's Didmus Barasa, of malice.

He says the allegations made by the four were deliberate and calculated to damage his reputation.

“The defendants deliberately, maliciously and callously employed false facts, cheap gossip and use of emotive and slanderous language calculated to maximize the injury and social and political hatred to Mr. Joho,” the suit reads in part.

"As a result, he has suffered distress, humiliation, public ridicule, psychological trauma, extreme embarrassment, loss and damage,” the plaint reads.

Joho wants the court to award him damages for slander and further issue an order restraining the four from further publishing defamatory words against him.

He further asks the court to compel Sang, Kimani, Barasa, and Sudi to make a full and unqualified apology, which should be published in not less than two leading newspapers in the country.

Speaking on Tuesday, Governor Sang refused to withdraw his remarks, saying he is ready to face Joho in court.

Sang says he has evidence to show that Joho is involved in drug trafficking and has promised to table it before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) as well as Interpol in the next two weeks.
