President Uhuru Rewards Election Losers with Plum Parastatal Jobs
Election losers in the 2017 elections have been awarded plum state jobs in the latest appointments made by President Kenyatta.
In what appears to be an effect of the March 9th, 2018 handshake between President Uhuru and Opposition leader Raila Odinga, the beneficiaries are drawn from across the political divide.
In a gazette notice, Kenyatta has appointed former Kajiado Governor David Nkedianye as the chairperson of the National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority.
Former Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu has been named as the chairperson of the Water Services Regulatory Board.
Former Kitui Central MP Joe Mutambo has been picked to chair the Water Resources Authority while Gonzi Rai, who failed to clinch the Kinango Parliamentary seat, is the new chairperson of the Kenya Fisheries Service.
Wavinya Ndeti, whose bid to unseat Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua was unsuccessful, has been appointed the chairperson of Kenya Water Institute while former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile will serve as a Board member of Tana Athi Waterworks.
Opposition leader Odinga's confidant Ogla Karani has been appointed to chair the Council of the Kenya Cultural Centre while former Taita Taveta Woman Representative Joyce Lay has been appointed as a member of the Water Sector Trust Fund board.
Kenyatta has also appointed legendary Kenyan athlete Paul Tergat as the chair Kenya Academy of Sports Council while his counterpart Kathrine Ndereba will serve as a member.
