President Kenyatta Fires Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa in Mini-Cabinet Reshuffle
President Kenyatta on Friday morning made a mini-Cabinet reshuffle that has seen Cabinet Secretary in charge of Sports, Rashid Echesa fired.
In an executive directive, President Uhuru has replaced Echesa with Ambassador Amina Mohammed, who has been the Education CS.
"In accordance with Article 152(5) of the Constitution, as read together with Article 152(1)(d) of the Constitution, the appointment of Mr. Rashid Echesa Mohamed, as a Cabinet Secretary has been vacated," reads the Executive Order by Kenyatta.
Prof. George Magoha, who is currently the Chairman of the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), has been nominated to replace Ms. Amina in the Education Ministry.
Also sacked is the PS in charge of Broadcasting and Telecommunication, Fatuma Hirsi.
"In accordance with Article 155 of the Constitution, the appointment of Mrs. Fatuma Hirsi, as a Principal Secretary has been vacated," the order reads.
President Uhuru has also redeployed some Principal Secretaries. Susan Mochache has been moved from the Ministry of Environment to Health.
PS Ali Noor Ismail will be in charge of the State Department of Cooperatives while Ibrahim Mohamed has been moved from Mining to the State Department of Environment.
Peter Kiplagat Tum has been re-assigned to the State Department of Labor from Health.
President Uhuru has also appointed Margaret Mwakima as the PS in charge of State Department of East African Community Affairs while Susan Koech has been moved from EAC docket to the State Department of Wildlife.
"The portfolio responsibilities and changes made in the structure of government set out in this order shall come into immediate effect," Kenyatta notes.
