UK-Based Youngster Rejects Offer to Play for Harambee Stars

John Wanjohi Mar 03, 2019

A Kenyan-British footballer has rejected an offer to play for the Kenyan national team Harambee Stars.

David Sesay, who plays as a defender for English League Two side Crawley Town, says he doesn't want to play for Harambee Stars at the moment as his focus is to help his team avoid relegation.

“The uncapped 20-year-old is grateful for Kenya’s interest but wants to help make sure Crawley are not sucked into a relegation scrap. They currently sit nine points ahead of the drop zone,” The Daily Mail reports.

Sesay is reportedly being tracked by a number of English clubs after impressive displays in League Two this season. He is valued at Sh42 million.

Although he was born in Brent, England, the youngster is eligible to represent Kenya as one of his parents is a Kenyan national.

Harambee Stars coach Sebastian Migne has included the 20-year-old in his 26-man squad ahead of the team’s final 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualification match against Ghana on March 23rd.

Sesay could follow in the footsteps of Liverpool’s Divock Origi, Australia-based Bruce Kamau and many other talented youngsters who have turned down offers to play for the Kenya national football team.
