Governor Cornel Rasanga: Siaya County Officials are Corrupt But I Can’t Fire Them
Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga says that he cannot sack corrupt county government officials because they are his close friends.
Governor Rasanga says that majority of the county officials implicated in corruption scandals are his allies but he can't dismiss them as he might need them in the future when he opts to run for another office.
He also notes that the officials have families who would bear the brunt should he fire them.
"What do I do? I cannot sack them since they are my people and some have families to raise,” Rasanga says as quoted by The Star.
The second-term Governor has also admitted that the levels of corruption in some Siaya county departments such as public works are so high.
"The level of corruption in Public Works has made me fear to visit the place," he adds.
He also says that senior county officials have been irregularly awarding tenders to their companies, thereby minting millions of shillings.
He, however, says that his administration has introduced a new electronic tendering system to seal corruption loopholes.
Rasanga is being investigated by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for spending millions of county funds to buy flight tickets for family members and friends.
