A burglar in Kericho County has committed suicide to avoid lynching by a mob that was baying for his blood.

The unidentified man is said to have broken into a house in Kimugul village, Kericho County on Sunday and stole Sh84,000.

The middle-aged man took his own life after neighbors camped outside the house baying for his blood.

Confirming the incident, Kimugul Location Chief William Sang says the burglar broke into a house belonging to a local businesswoman after she went to church.

However, one of the woman’s children was in the house when the suspect broke in, thinking that the entire family was away.

Chief Sanga says the deceased, who is believed to be in his thirties, broke into a safe full of cash and stashed Sh84, 000 into his pockets.

The child discovered their house had been broken into and raised alarm attracting neighbors.

To avoid lynching by the angry mob, the burglar reportedly locked himself inside before hanging himself using a rope.

After camping outside for more than 10 minutes, the residents gained access into the house and were shocked to find the man dangling from the rafters with the cash still stashed in his pockets.

The identity of the burglar was not immediately established and his body was taken to Kericho District Hospital mortuary.
