Miguna Miguna Prepares for His Return to Kenya Next Month

Deported Kenyan-Canadian lawyer Miguna Miguna says he will be returning to the country next month.

Miguna has written a letter to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) requesting them to facilitate his return.

In the letter, Miguna cites court rulings that declared his deportation by the State as illegal.

In December last year, the High Court ruled that Miguna is a Kenyan by birth and holding a Canadian passport doesn't deny him his birthright.

In his ruling, Justice Chacha Mwita declared that the State violated his rights by deporting him and awarded Miguna Sh7.2 million in compensation.

The firebrand politician was first kicked out of the country in February 2018 before being deported again the following month after he attempted to return to Kenya through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

His trouble with the Immigration authorities began after he administered an 'oath' on Opposition leader Raila Odinga during a mock swearing-in ceremony held on January 30th, 2018.

He wants KNCHR to liaise with the Attorney-General, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and the Immigration Principal Secretary Gordon Kihalangwa to have his passport returned on his arrival at JKIA.

In a tweet, Miguna has called on Kenyans to turn up in large numbers at JKIA to welcome him on the date to be communicated in due course.
