Furious Ekeza Sacco Members Attack Bishop David Gakuyo's Lawyer Outside Nairobi Court

Drama ensued at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi on Thursday after irate Ekeza Sacco members attacked one of the lawyers representing televangelist David Kariuki Ngare, alias Gakuyo.

The disgruntled members accused lawyer Samuel Mburu of ridiculing them in his response to their submission in court.

Citizen Digital reports that the angry members pounced on Mburu outside the court building, tearing his shirt and suit before security guards came to his rescue.

This came after confusion in court over who between lawyer Mburu and Duncan Okachi was the real Ekeza Sacco's lawyer.

Each of the two claims to have received instructions to represent the society in court but had different stands on the matter before the court.

While Mburu says he has no problem with the court order that halted the takeover of the Sacco by new management, lawyer Okachi wants the order vacated.

The judge has directed the application seeking to have the order vacated be filed formally ahead of mentioning next week.

Last week, the court temporarily barred the Commissioner of Co-operative Development from installing new management Committee at Ekeza Sacco.

The Commissioner was further barred from removing from office the current management committee of Ezeka Sacco led by Bishop Gakuyo.

The court issued the order after 11 Sacco members filed a petition seeking to stop the Commissioner from interfering with the management of the Sacco.
