Senator Kipchumba Murkomen Demands Sacking of DCI George Kinoti
Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has called for the firing of the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti.
The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator accuses Kinoti of carrying out biased investigations in the fight against corruption.
Instead, Murkomen says an independent institution should be constituted to deal with corruption.
Murkomen, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, further accuses Kinoti of leaking information to the press even before the persons under investigations over graft are summoned for questioning.
“Even before he has started the investigations he has sent a message to the media, even before he has summoned a person he has already sent the questions to the media,” Murkomen claims.
The politician cites the recent grilling of National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich over Sh21 billion Arror and Kimwarer dams’ scandal.
He says the media reported Rotich was going to be asked 300 questions, which turned out to be true.
“Tuliambiwa Rotich ataenda kuulizwa maswali 300, mimi nilifikiria ni propaganda tukikuja kuona maswali ni 300 (We were told that Rotich will be asked 300 questions, I thought it was just propaganda but I later saw that indeed the questions were 300),” says Murkomen.
He also alleges that Kinoti is being used by politicians to frame their political rivals.
