Nairobi MCAs Reject Governor Mike Sonko's D+ Cabinet Nominee Sonia Birdi
A Nairobi County Assembly Committee has rejected Governor Mike Sonko's Cabinet nominee for Environment, Sanjeev Sonia Birdi.
In a report, the Assembly's Select Committee on Appointments says the nominee was found to have no knowledge on key issues about the environment sector.
The committee further points out that Bird is not only hostile but also arrogant hence unfit to hold public office.
The report tabled by Majority leader Abdi Guyo further states that the nominee had been charged in court with public disturbance and abuse of power.
“The environment issues in Nairobi does not require someone who has a D+ and cannot understand simple terms in the sector,” says Guyo
“As a committee, we did our best to make sure Nairobians get the best out of the women who had been nominated,” says Peter Imwatok, Minority Whip.
Ms. Birdi also failed to present her academic transcripts and the Recognition and Equation of qualifications from the Commission for University as is required for degree certificates conferred by foreign universities.
“I urge this Assembly not to approve the name of the nominee for the above reasons stated,” says Guyo.
During her vetting last week, Birdi defended her D+ grade in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam, saying it does not translate to being a failure.
"That D+ in my paper is not a failure but what I am bringing on the table."
"If I was not positive on the change I want to make, I wouldn't have applied for the position," stated Birdi who sat for her KCSE exam at Loreto Convent, Msongari.
