Police have impounded two firearms and 471 rounds of ammunition during a raid of a house belonging to lawyer Assa Nyakundi.

The raid is part of the ongoing investigations into circumstances under which the advocate allegedly accidentally shot and killed his 29-year-old, Joseph Nyakundi as they returned home from church on Sunday afternoon.

Police say one pistol and 471 bullets of different caliber were found inside a safe in the master bedroom while the other gun was found inside a shoe rack in an adjacent room.

“The firearm certificate and the civilian firearm certificate id have been forwarded to firearms licensing board for verification,” Police say.

Nyakundi’s Toyota Axion car has also been subjected to ballistic examination. One spent cartridge and a bullet head of the same caliber were found inside the same vehicle.

Following the incident on Sunday, police officers confiscated Nyakundi’s Glock pistol, which was loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.

He told police that he accidentally shot his son, who was on the back seat, as he tried to holster the firearm as they approached his Muthaiga North home.

The 60-year-old advocate was arrested and taken to Muthaiga Police Station but was later rushed to Nairobi Hospital under police guard after he suffered blood pressure complications. He is still recuperating at the facility.

The lawyer said the son was pronounced dead on arrival at the Aga Khan Hospital.
