US Envoy to Kenya Kyle McCarter Defends His Recent Meeting with DP William Ruto
United States envoy to Kenya Kyle McCarter has defended his recent meeting with Deputy President William Ruto.
This comes after an online user questioned his remarks calling for concerted efforts in the fight against corruption.
McCarter posted his remarks on Twitter after an event hosted by Kenya Editors, where he spoke about the role of the media in the fight against corruption.
Reacting to the envoy's post, one Dan Kadondi stated: “But Bwana Amb. Last time I saw you with Dr. Arap Ruto who is the high priest of graft in Kenya, such collaboration makes us question your integrity.”
Responding to Kadondi, McCarter says that as the Ambassador, he intends to work with all stakeholders, including Ruto, to achieve his objectives.
“I will work with all stakeholders in order to achieve peace, safety, and prosperity for both USA and Kenya," says McCarter.
He adds: “Hon DP Ruto has the ability & position to deliver this. Besides if I only worked with perfect people I would be very lonely, staying at home every day with my imperfect self."
His response has impressed some online users, especially Ruto's supporters.
Dennis Itumbi tweets: “With this kind of engagement, I already love @USAmbKenya – accessibility, and responses online is a great thing. Finally, an envoy who is a tweet away. Asante.”
On Tuesday, Kyle paid a courtesy call to Ruto at his Karen office.
