Orengo: Why I Want Deputy President William Ruto Impeached

John Wanjohi Mar 28, 2019

Siaya Senator James Orengo has revealed why he wants Deputy President William Ruto impeached.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Orengo, who doubles up as the Senate Minority Leader has cited corruption allegations and insubordination as grounds for Ruto's ouster.

The lawyer argues that Ruto's attacks on government agencies mandated to fight corruption amounts to insubordination and gross misconduct.

Orengo says these grounds are sufficient to introduce a motion of no confidence against Ruto.

“The list is too long. And this is not about what he has been linked to, but what he has also admitted. For example the hotel next to the airport, the Muteshi land and now these two dams where there has been an allegation supported by facts that Sh21 billion was lost but in his knowledge, he is talking about Sh7 billion,” says Orengo.

Senator Orengo further notes that Ruto must be investigated if the country is serious on fighting the vice.

“He (Ruto) is not being investigated because we are not yet prepared to deal with grand corruption. I think he should be investigated,” says Orengo.

“If he cannot be investigated, then the parliamentary process is another tool which is largely political.”

He has further dismissed claims that he is speaking for ODM leader Raila Odinga by calling for Ruto's removal from office.

“It is me speaking; Raila has his mouth and I got my mouth. When I am speaking on behalf of Raila; which I have done before, I’ll say as much,” explains Orengo.

Orengo recently threatened to table in Parliament a motion for the impeachment of Ruto.
