Samburu Governor Lenolkulal Charged, Freed on Sh150 Million Bond or Sh100 Million Cash Bail
Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday afternoon.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti, Governor Lenolkulal was charged with conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption, abuse of office, conflict of interest, and unlawful acquisition of public property.
He is accused of irregularly obtaining Sh84.7 million from the Samburu County government by supplying fuel through his fuel company, Oryx Service Station between March 2013 and March 2019.
Lenolkulal, who was arrested on Tuesday morning by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), has pleaded not guilty to the four counts of corruption and abuse of office.
Magistrate Ogoti has also barred him from accessing the Samburu county government offices pending hearing and determination of the case.
It remains to be seen whether he will manage to raise the bail or bond to secure his release considering that his property and bank accounts were frozen in February.
