‘Wacheni Mungu Aitwe Mungu': Deputy President William Ruto Says as ODM Suffers Defeat in By-Elections

Deputy President William Ruto has celebrated the defeat of Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in the Embakasi South and Ugenya by-elections.

Julius Mawathe of Wiper clinched the Embakasi South seat after trouncing ODM’s Irshad Sumra.

In Ugenya, Raila's political bedrock, David Ochieng of little-known Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) defeated his ODM counterpart Christopher Karan with more than 7,000 votes.

On Saturday morning, Ruto penned an emotional message to congratulate Mawathe and Ochieng.

Ruto says the victory of the two candidates who thrashed rivals from ODM is ‘God-given’ and a win for the 'hustler' nation.

“CONGRATULATIONS Ochieng (Ugenya) & Mawathe (Embakasi) for your God-given victory. Jameni wacheni MUNGU aitwe MUNGU. The hustler nation has spoken, the people have decided. GLORY TO THE ALMIGHTY GOD,” Ruto says in a tweet.

ODM's Sumra conceded defeat even before vote tallying concluded.

“I am a veteran in politics, I have my numbers and I just want to say that this time I lost fair and square because my finishing was poor. It was a lack of planning on my part I will not shift blame to anyone,” said Sumra.
