Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu Among Jubilee Leaders Whose Bodyguards Have Been Withdrawn
Several Jubilee party leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have reportedly had their security detail withdrawn abruptly.
Among leaders whose bodyguards have been withdrawn include Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika, MPs Kimani Ichung'wah (Kikuyu) and Alice Wahome (Kandara) among others.
Speaking to the Standard, Governor Waititu and MP Ichung'wah have confirmed the withdrawal of bodyguards assigned to them.
The two say there was no formal explanation as to why their security was withdrawn.
Ichung’wa, who is currently out of the country on a business trip, has pointed the finger at Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho.
“Ask them what they want to do with my family while I am away. They are being told its orders from above in the PS’s office,” he says.
An MP who spoke to Capital FM News has termed the move as an attempt to intimidate those supporting Ruto.
“It is clear they are being targeted because of associating with Ruto but I don’t think the approach is good for the country,” the MP notes.
Police Headquarters is yet to issue a statement confirming or explaining why the bodyguards were withdrawn.
