25-Year-Old Kenyan Woman Hacked to Death by Estranged Husband

A 25-year-old woman has on Monday been killed by her estranged husband in Nyaribo, Nyeri County.

Mary Wangui, a mother of two children, has been hacked to death by her estranged husband David Karuru.

Karuru is said to have trailed Wangui to her house where he attacked and killed her.

The deceased’s housemate Catherine Karimi says that the two had earlier engaged in an argument at a shopping center where Ms. Wangui operates a potato chips business before he followed her home.

Ms. Karimi says she left the house to answer a call of nature at around 1 am when the suspect sneaked in and committed the act.

She rushed back to the house upon hearing Ms. Wangui and her child cry for help only to find her bleeding from the neck. The suspect fled after committing the crime.

Nyeri Central Sub-County Police Commander Paul Kuria says officers have launched a manhunt for the suspect.

"He took off as soon as he committed the act. We are currently looking for him," Kuria says.

The incident comes days after a 30-year-old woman was stabbed 17 times by her husband in Mathira, Nyeri County over the weekend.

Peninah Wangechi is currently nursing serious injuries at Karatina Hospital. The suspect, Samuel Ndirangu later surrendered himself to the police and is set to be arraigned in court.
