Billionaire Jimi Wanjigi Accused of Defrauding Businessman of Sh56 Million

John Wanjohi Apr 17, 2019

Kenyan billionaire Jimi Wanjigi has been sued by businessman Yogesh Patel for allegedly defrauding him of Sh56 million.

In documents filed in court, Patel accuses Wanjigi, his wife, and their firms of using a shell company to defraud him of the said amount.

The businessman alleges that Wanjigi and co offered to sell to him a parcel of land in Nairobi's Westlands area and demanded he makes a down payment of Sh56 million.

However, Patel claims that Wanjigi is yet to give him ownership documents for the 0.818-acre piece of land despite making partial payments as agreed.

He says the sale of the plot was advertised by Aureum Ltd, a firm co-owned by Wanjigi, his wife Irene Nzisa and Augustine Kairo Thuo.

Patel explains that he was shocked to learn that the parcel, which had been valued at Sh260 million in June 2018, has since been transferred to another person but he is yet to get back his money.

The Daily Nation reports that records show the land in question was transferred to Cissy Kalunde Musembi, a transaction Patel wants reversed in order to get back his money.

The defendants have until June 17th to file their responses to the suit.
