11 Million Kenyans Registered for Huduma Namba, President Kenyatta Says
President Kenyatta says 11 million Kenyans have so far registered for Huduma Namba.
The registration drive was launched 16 days ago across the country and seeks to list more than 40 million Kenyans aged above six years by May 18th.
In his Easter message to Kenyans, Kenyatta has once again defended the National Integrated Information Management System (NIIMS) terming it a game changer as far as the identification of persons and delivery of government services is concerned.
“Huduma Namba is Kenya’s first digital integrated record of citizen data which gives the Government a robust platform to deliver the first-class service,” says President Kenyatta.
He also says Huduma Namba registration centers will remain open during the Easter holiday to enable more people to register.
On Thursday, State House clarified that Huduma Namba registration is a voluntary process and assured that no one will be punished for failing to register.
“There is no directive from the Government to institute any punitive measures against those who don’t register. More emphasis will be laid on civic education!” says State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita.
Nzioka made the clarification moments after the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) warned it would block mobile phone SIM cards of Kenyans who fail to register for Huduma Namba.
