Kenyan Catholic Priests Directed to Bar Politicians from Politicking in Church
The Catholic Church in Kenya has banned politicians from politicking in church.
The decision to bar leaders from talking politics in the church was made following a meeting of Catholic Bishops this week.
Auxiliary Bishop David Kamau says there must be a clear boundary between church and politics, stating that politicians should carry their businesses elsewhere.
“We met recently as Catholic Bishops and passed a resolution that we should not allow politicians to interfere with our congregations or to bring politics in our churches,” says Bishop Kamau.
“We would like our politicians to understand that we don’t want to mix issues. Let us leave politics where it belongs and the church where it belongs.”
Bishop Kamau says all Catholic priests in charge of parishes have been instructed not to entertain politicking in church.
Kenyan Churches have been on the spot in recent times for allowing politicians to turn the pulpit into political arenas to exchange barbs and hurl insults at each other.
