Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero to Spend Fourth Night in Police Cell

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero will spend Monday night in police cell ahead of a ruling on his bail application on Tuesday afternoon.

Kidero, who was arrested on Friday morning over graft accusations alongside 15 other suspects, has been arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday.

The accused persons have been charged with abuse of office, money laundering, conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption, unlawful acquisition of public property and dealing with suspect property.

They are accused of defrauding the Nairobi County Government of Sh68 million through an irregular payment to a law firm named Wachira, Mburu, Mwangi & Company Advocates.

Kidero and his co-accused have been in police custody since their arrest on Friday by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

They have pleaded not guilty to the charges and have urged the court to free them on reasonable bail conditions.

The court has ordered they be held at Kilimani Police Station pending the bail ruling.

Kidero has been charged alongside John Ndirangu Kariuki (former Nairobi Mayor), Paul Mutunga Mutungi (former Councilor) and George Wainaina Njogu (former Nairobi County Government Chief of Staff) among others.
