Kenyans Online Bash British Outlet Daily Mail over Article Questioning Kipchoge's London Marathon Win

John Wanjohi Apr 30, 2019

Kenyans on social media on Tuesday slammed British news outlet, Daily Mail Online for undermining Kenya's dominance in last Sunday London Marathon.

In a controversial article headlined “The evolution of marathon running in recent years is troubling… it’s hard not to question the elite in the £1bn race,” the outlet questions the credibility of Eliud Kipchoge, who won the London Marathon title for a record fourth time.

The outlet suggests that Kipchoge may have used suspicious means other than just talent and training to conquer London.

It adds that the way Kipchoge and other East Africans run in recent years is abnormal, suggesting the use of prohibited substances.

This has angered Kenyans who have taken to social media using the hashtag, #SomeoneTell @MailOnline, to criticize the outlet over the controversial article.

Here are some of the reactions;

@robinnjogu tweets:" @MailOnline that this article is essentially a mix of balderdash and poppycock wrapped in pure rubbish. What if @Mo_Farah won?"

@FredMuitiriri says:" @MailOnline, Kenya is no longer your colony. Mau Mau defeated you, and our athletes are cementing just that on your streets. Shame shame shame."

@IAmOgutu notes: "@DailyMailUK, Kenyans are and remain genetically better wired to win resilience races and we are not apologetic. It's a kind of black supremacy you must learn to live with."

While Kipchoge clinched the men's title, his compatriot Brigid Kosgei won the women's race.
