Kenyan Senior Magistrate Accused of Killing Lawyer Husband Denied Bail
Nyeri Senior Resident Magistrate Pauline Chesang will spend more weeks in a police cell after she was denied bail in a case where she is accused of killing her husband, lawyer Robert Chesang.
On Thursday, Machakos Court judge David Kimei has directed police to detain Ms. Chesang at Athi River Police Station pending the hearing of the matter on May 29th, 2019.
Justice Kimei further says that the matter will be heard at Machakos trial court under Justice George Odunga, where all the accused persons in the case will be arraigned.
Lawyer Robert Chesang was shot dead by gunmen at his Lukenya home in Machakos County on February 17th, 2019.
His wife, who is suspected to have hired the men to kill him, was arrested and charged with murder.
Detectives believe the motive of the murder was domestic violence occasioned by the tussle for properties.
Ms. Chesang was arrested and charged alongside three other suspects among them retired National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer Laurence Metayo Lempesi, and police constables Peter Muendo Mbithi and Alex Wanyonyi Wanyama.
Mr. Chesang was laid to rest on March 16th at Kalabata village, Baringo North.
