Colonel Cyrus Oguna Appointed New Government Spokesman as Eric Kiraithe is Dropped
Colonel (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna has been appointed as the new Government Spokesperson.
His appointment was announced by ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru in a communiqué on Tuesday morning.
Oguna, a career military officer, takes over the position from Eric Kiraithe with immediate effect.
“In line with directions from the Executive Office of the President through the Head of Public Service, the office of the Government Spokesman shall be domiciled at the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology,” CS Mucheru says.
“He will also have a content oversight role over the two government news gathering and dissemination channels; Kenya News Agency and MyGov,” the statement adds.
Colonel Oguna was formerly the spokesperson for the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) when they entered Somalia in 2011 for a task dubbed "Operation Linda Nchi."
In his new role, Oguna will be in charge of all government communication channels under the ICT Ministry.
Kiraithe has served in the position since March 2016 after previously serving as Kenya Police spokesman and Chief of Security at the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).
