Criminals in Kenya Demand Sh150 Million Ransom to Release Two Abducted Cuban Doctors

Criminals who abducted two Cuban doctors in Mandera County last month are reportedly demanding Sh150 million ransom.

The demand was communicated through Mandera County community elders who traveled to a remote village located between the towns of Buale and El-Ade in Jubaland region of Somalia, Citizen Digital reports.

The two medics Herera Corea (general practitioner) and Landy Rodriguez (surgeon) are reported to have been seen alive.

Community elders from Mandera and Bulahawo were assured that the two foreigners, who were kidnapped on April 12th, are alive and offering medical services to the community in a restricted environment.

The two were abducted on their way to work from home in Mandera town by armed gunmen suspected to be Al-Shabaab militants.

Kenyan authorities have reportedly sent back the elders to further negotiate the ransom.

The abduction led to the withdrawal of Cuban doctors deployed in Wajir, Garissa and Tana River. They have since been reassigned other counties.
