36-Year-Old Kenyan Woman Arrested Trying to Traffic Cocaine into Nigeria
Nigerian police are holding a Kenyan woman after she was arrested while trying to smuggle narcotics into the West African country.
33-year-old Angela Wairimu was arrested on Monday night while attempting to sneak 6.5 kilograms of cocaine into Nigeria through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said the Kenyan national attempted to smuggle what it described as the “largest consignment into Nigeria in the recent past.”
NDLEA spokesperson Jonah Achema said Ms. Wairimu was apprehended minutes after arriving from South Africa. Wairimu was reportedly hiding the drug substance in her hand luggage.
“She had concealed some of the illicit substances in the false bottom of a traveling bag which also contained two wrapped parcels of the same illicit drug,” the officer said.
The mother of two told NDLEA officers that she is a businesswoman dealing in clothes and cosmetics. Wairimu also said she is a model.
“She said that this was her second trip to Nigeria to purchase beauty products and local fabrics for her enterprise called Pa Model in South Africa and Kenya,” said Achema.
