Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko claims that last weekend's attack on his daughter at a nightclub in the city was an attempt to intimidate and silence him.

On Saturday, armed men attacked Sonko's daughter Saumu Mbuvi and Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip outside Memphis Lounge near USIU University.

Ms. Mbuvi sustained an injury on her hand while Senator Loitiptip was left with deep cuts on his head.

Loitiptip was admitted to Aga Khan Hospital ICU, where he is still receiving treatment.

Taking to Facebook, Governor Sonko claimed that well-connected people in government were using all means to silence him.

“But the president is a good person and is not part of this scheme,” said Sonko.

“My daughter was watching football with some friends including a Senator. She has her freedom, she is a mother. I was shocked eight goons armed with pangas, as she was going to the toilet they wanted to attack her, she screamed. During this altercation, the Senator was severely injured and is still at the ICU. We do not know if he will make it,” Sonko added.

Kasarani OCPD Peter Kimani said one suspect, a bouncer at the said entertainment joint, was arrested in connection with the attack.
