Police in California are still investigating the circumstances under which a Stanford University student originally from Kenya died in her dormitory room.

24-year-old Norah Chelagat Borus was found dead at her on-campus room on Friday.

Family spokesperson Joseph Maswan said police are still investigating the matter and that the body was yet to be released to them. He said the family is yet to receive any information on what could have caused her death.

Norah, who was the best performing student in the 2013 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations in Nairobi County and fourth nationally, was studying Computer Science at a Stanford.

"The cause of death will be determined by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner," Stanford University said in a statement on Monday.

The deceased is the last-born child of Prof. Peter Borus and his wife, Dr. Diana Borus of Kenya's Ministry of Agriculture.

Maswan said Prof. Borus and his eldest daughter are already in the US to follow up with the matter.
