Murder Suspect Jowie's Lawyer Suggests Monica Kimani May Have Died from Starvation

John Wanjohi Jun 26, 2019

A lawyer representing murder suspect Joseph Irungu alias Jowie has suggested that businesswoman Monica Kimani may have died from starvation.

On Tuesday, lawyer David Ayuo asked an expert witness in the trial whether he ascertained beyond any reasonable doubt that Ms. Kimani’s did not die from hunger.

Ayuo posed the question after the witness told the court that the victim’s “trachea had been slit open, and that blood was oozing from her private parts.”

“Did you open her esophagus to ascertain the food Monica Kimani took that day? Did you open her stomach? Could we suggest that the cause of her death was as a result of starvation?” posed Ayuo.

Jowie is accused of killing Ms. Kimani at her apartment in Nairobi's Kilimani area on September 18th, 2018.

He was charged alongside his girlfriend, Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe, who is already out on bail.

The two took fresh pleas on Tuesday before High Court Justice James Wakiaga. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Monica was brutally murdered at her apartment in Lamuria Gardens hours after she returned to the country from South Sudan, where she allegedly managed family business.

Her body had been dumped in a bathtub with hands and legs tied, and throat slit.
