Kenyan Detectives Seek FBI's Help in DP William Ruto Assassination Probe

Kenyan authorities have allegedly sought the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to probe the alleged assassination plot against Deputy President William Ruto.

The Daily Nation reports that Kenyan detectives want the US agency to help them investigate a letter which claims that there is a plot by top government officials including four Cabinet Secretaries to eliminate Ruto.

Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti said Ruto was yet to record a statement over the allegations.

Kinoti said their task at the moment is to establish the authenticity of the said letter, whose author remains unknown.

“If he (Ruto) records a statement before that, well and good. But the DP is a senior person and cannot be interrogated on the basis of a document whose authenticity has not been verified," said Kinoti.

Sources at the DCI Cyber Crime Unit said they had approached the FBI, due to the sensitivity of the matter, to help them scrutinize the cyber-systems to determine who downloaded the letter.

“What we know at the moment is that the letter was first seen on social media. But we want to determine whether it was sent to the addressee as a hard copy,” said Kinoti.

Kinoti said they will summon Cabinet Secretaries mentioned after establishing the authenticity of the letter.

“We have told them that we shall call them back here to record statements once we determine the authenticity of the letter,” said Kinoti.

The Cabinet Secretaries are Joe Mucheru (ICT), Sicily Kariuki (Health), Peter Munya (Trade), and James Macharia (Infrastructure).

They are alleged to have held secret meetings at La Mada Hotel along Thika Road to plot Ruto's assassination.

The four denied the allegations when they appeared at the DCI offices on Monday.
