Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip has put to rest rumors of his alleged romantic relationship with Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's daughter, Saumu Mbuvi.

In an interview with the Nairobian, Loitiptip confirmed he is in a relationship with Ms. Saumu and the two were planning to tie the knot before the end of this year.

At the same time, the first-time Senator denied claims that he is married, noting that he was previously in a relationship with Sophia Mohamed, a police officer.

The politician said he broke up with Ms. Sophia due to disagreements over family, finance, and career.

“I am in a serious relationship with Saumu and we are planning a lavish Islamic wedding whose date will be announced soon, probably towards the end of the year,” Loitiptip said.

Senator Loitiptip also noted that their relationship with Saumu is purely based on love and not money.

“I made my way into politics through the support of Lamu electorate. Sonko is a good friend and I stand by him in his political ambitions,” he stated.

Loitiptip recently sustained serious injuries while defending Saumu against armed men outside Memphis Lounge along Thika Road.

He was admitted to Aga Khan Hospital's ICU with head injuries but has since recovered.

Saumu who is currently on a vacation in Zanzibar with Senator Loitiptip, also denied claims that she was dating a married man.

“What is this I am seeing all over the media that my husband is married, yet I know he isn’t? I never heard of any wedding between him and any woman," the mother of one said.
