Detectives Link DP William Ruto’s Aides to Letter on Alleged Assassination Plot Against Him
Detectives have reportedly identified two suspects in connection with an anonymous letter which claimed that there is a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.
The letter alleged that some leaders from Mt. Kenya, including four Cabinet Secretaries, have been holding secret meetings at La Mada Hotel along Thika Road to plan Ruto's assassination.
Investigations have allegedly linked the mysterious letter to two people, who work for Ruto, according to Sunday Nation.
The publication reports that investigators believe the two aides attached to Ruto's communication team, authored and circulated the fake document.
On Monday Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya, Joe Mucheru, Sicily Kariuki, and James Macharia were summoned at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over the letter dated May 30th.
The letter claimed that the four were part of a group that had been meeting at the top hotel to scheme Ruto's death.
On Saturday, DCI George Kinoti declined to comment, stating that investigations to establish the authenticity of the letter were still ongoing.
“Investigations are still ongoing. I can’t say anything that can jeopardize them,” Kinoti said.
The two Ruto aides allegedly drafted and printed the letter at a cyber cafe located along Langata Road in Nairobi. They are yet to record statements with police since their phones were switched off on Friday.
A senior official at the Ministry of Interior told Sunday Nation that authors of the letter are well-known. The official sought anonymity.
