MP Stanley Muthama Charged with Sh487 Million Tax Fraud
Lamu West Member of Parliament Stanley Muthama was on Monday arraigned in court where he was charged with tax evasion.
Muthama is accused of failing to remit taxes amounting to Sh487 million from his businesses operated under a company named Stansha Limited.
Appearing before Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa, MP Muthama pleaded not guilty to 13 charges pressed against him and was released on Sh500,000 cash bail or Sh3 million bond.
The complainant, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), said Muthama committed the offenses between 2013 and 2017.
The charge sheet read that Muthama together with others not before court evaded paying taxes from income derived from his businesses within Kericho, Kajiado and Nakuru counties.
Muthama was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday last week after being trailed by detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The case will be mentioned on July 15th, 2019.
