Dennis Itumbi Arrested over Fake Letter Alleging There’s Plot to Assassinate DP William Ruto
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday arrested Dennis Itumbi.
Itumbi, a digital communication strategist based at Deputy President William Ruto’s office, was reportedly arrested at Charlie’s Bistro restaurant in Nairobi CBD.
Itumbi was allegedly apprehended in connection with a fake letter alleging that there was a plot to assassinate DP Ruto. He was taken to DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road for questioning.
His arrest comes days after Daily Nation reported that the DCI was zeroing in on two DP Ruto aides linked to the fake letter.
Responding to the Daily Nation article via Twitter, Itumbi said:
“Journalism is at its lowest form when Daily Nation pens a story and reproduces allegation after allegation – but does not bother to call or text any of the communication officers in the Presidency they claim are being sought by DCI Kenya and are in hiding. Objective verification."
The letter alleged that a group of leaders from Mt. Kenya region, including four Cabinet Secretaries, had been meeting at La Mada Hotel along Thika Road to plan Ruto's assassination.
The four Cabinet Secretaries are Peter Munya (Trade), Sicily Kariuki (Health), Joe Mucheru (ICT) and James Macharia (Infrastructure).
