'I Was Lucky to Love Him', Bob Collymore's Widow Wambui Kamiru Says
The wife of the late Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, Wambui Kamiru has spoken for the first time since the death of her husband.
The widow on Wednesday thanked Kenyans for the numerous messages of condolences she continues to receive.
Ms. Wambui noted that the messages were a testament to the special man Collymore was.
“I am overwhelmed by all the love and beautiful messages I have been receiving from you all here, ” she said in a Twitter message.
She added: “It is a true testament to the character of the special man I was lucky to love. I can’t respond to all your messages but know that I have read and received your warmth. Thank you."
Wambui and Collymore exchange marriage vows in an invite-only wedding ceremony in 2016.
The 61-year-old Guyana-born British national died at his Nairobi residence on Monday morning after battling with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) for about two years.
He was cremated in a private ceremony held at the Hindu Shamshan Bhumi Cremation Centre in Kariokor, Nairobi on Tuesday.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Collymore at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi on Thursday.
Safaricom announced that all shops across the country will remain closed from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm on Thursday in honor of Collymore.
