Journalist Jacque Maribe Quits Citizen TV

Kenyan journalist Jacque Maribe has reportedly quit Citizen TV months after she was charged with murder.

Reports on various local outlets indicate the news anchor tendered her resignation from the Royal Media Services (RMS) owned television station this week, citing personal reasons.

The mother of one was charged with the murder of Kenyan businesswoman Monica Kimani last October alongside her boyfriend Joseph Irungu alias Jowie.

Ms. Monica was found dead at her apartment in Lamuria Gardens in Nairobi's Kilimani Estate hours after she returned to the country from South Sudan, where she allegedly managed her family's business.

Her body had been dumped in a bathtub with hands and legs tied, and throat slit.

Maribe was granted bail by Justice Wakiaga but was ordered to appear on TV until the case is concluded.

This forced her employer to move her to the editorial department. The political reporter has worked with Royal Media Services since 2012.

While supporting Maribe's bail application last year, RMS Managing Director Wachira Waruru said her character over the years is not questionable.

“Having engaged her for the last six years, and assessing her performance, we hereby vouch for her character and recommend for her admission to bail,” said Waruru in a court filing.

“Due to her exceptional performance, she has been appointed to the position of Friday’s prime time news anchor on the station.”

Maribe is yet to comment about her resignation.
