'That’s Utter Nonsense', Interior PS Karanja Kibicho Says on DP William Ruto Assassination Claims

John Wanjohi Jul 08, 2019

Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho has dismissed claims of an alleged assassination plot against Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking in Nairobi on Monday, Kibicho termed the claims as utter nonsense, pointing out that no one has filed a complaint on the matter.

"I hear assassinations claims… Who has complained? I am yet to hear someone complain. That’s utter nonsense and unfounded claims. We should stop creating things that don’t exist,” said Kibicho who spoke during the launch of a borehole at Shauri Moyo Police Station in Nairobi.

Kibicho, who is said to be in bad blood with Ruto, said such baseless claims should not be dominating media headlines.

“We are credited with intelligence and brains, better than what we are hearing. It’s unfortunate we are occupied by media talking about imaginations. We must be a country led by logic and truths; it’s unfortunate that people make conclusions even before investigations. Political interference should not be accepted,” he noted.

“We should stop creating things that don’t exist. The moment we have a formal claim we deal with it in accordance with the law. We will not as a ministry be stopped from doing our work.”

Claims of the alleged assassination plot against Ruto are contained in an unverified letter that was circulated on social media two weeks ago.

Blogger Dennis Itumbi, who works for Ruto, has since been arrested and is expected to be charged in connection with the letter.

The letter linked the assassination scheme to a group of leaders from Mt. Kenya region including Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya (Trade), Joseph Mucheru (ICT), James Macharia (Transport) and Sicily Kariuki (Health).

It claimed that the leaders met at La Mada Hotel along Thika Road to plan Ruto's murder.
