Cancer Warrior Kibra MP Ken Okoth is Dead

John Wanjohi Jul 26, 2019

Kibra Member of Parliament Ken Okoth has passed away in Nairobi.

Okoth died while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital on Friday, his family announced in a press briefing.

The 41-year-old MP was reportedly rushed to Nairobi Hospital on Thursday evening in critical condition and was put on life support machine at the Intensive Care Unit.

His demise comes less than three weeks after he returned to the country following an extended medical trip abroad.

Okoth, who was battling stage four colorectal cancer, jetted back to the country at the beginning of this month after spending more than five months receiving treatment in France.

While in Europe, he constantly updated Kenyans on social media of his progress.

In March, he tweeted, "Napambana na hali yangu kabisa. Chemo drugs are brutal on the skin and immunity system."

In an interview early this year, Okoth said the cancer was discovered at a very advanced stage and could only be managed, not cured.

“I was diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer with metastases to the liver,” he said.

“I will be using chemotherapy tablets every morning. Because my disease was discovered at a very advanced stage, it cannot be cured. It can only be managed,” Okoth added.

Before it was discovered he had cancer, Okoth said he was on treatment for ulcers and bacterial infections for about a year.
