Ken Okoth to be Cremated on Saturday as Feuding Parties Agree to DNA Test

John Wanjohi Aug 02, 2019

The cremation of late Kibra MP Ken Okoth will take place on Saturday after feuding parties agreed to have DNA samples collected from his remains.

On Friday, attorneys representing the deceased’s mother Angeline, wife Monica and his alleged secret lover, Nairobi MCA Anne Muthoni Thumbi said the parties mutually agreed to resolve the matter through a DNA test.

Ms. Muthoni claimed that her four-year-old son is a biological child of the late politician and had on Thursday obtained court orders stopping the cremation ceremony.

“We resolved that this is a family matter and will be resolved as such. The cremation of the body will proceed as planned but after DNA samples are picked from the body of the late Hon. Ken Okoth at Lee Funeral Home,” Muthoni’s lawyer Danstan Omari said.

Omari said each party will have its pathologist during the collection of the DNA samples from Okoth’s body as well as during the testing process.

“The pathologist will provide the methodologies to be used as we await the results of the DNA test,” Omari noted.

He further said that his client’s intention was not to stop the funeral program as she “loved Ken so much”.
While granting orders to collect DNA samples from Ken’s body on Friday, the court also ruled that the boy be allowed to participate in the funeral program.
