Kenyan Singer Akothee Takes Her Charitable Organization to Turkana

John Wanjohi Aug 06, 2019

Kenyan singer Esther Akoth, alias Akothee, has extended the operations of her humanitarian foundation to Turkana County months after she moved Kenyans for mobilizing food donations for starving residents.

On Monday, the musician announced she had launched the Akothee Foundation in Turkana to help the needy and hunger-stricken people in the region. The foundation will help sink water boreholes in the area among other activities.

“The grand opening of Akothee Foundation TURKANA branch,” she wrote on her social media pages.

In March this year, Akothee launched an initiative to mobilize food and water for starving Kenyans in Turkana County.

After an online appeal for funds, the "Oyoyo" hitmaker traveled to Turkana with trucks full of tons of food and more than 10,000 liters of water.

Kenyans online praised her for the initiative, saying she is better than most gospel musicians and churches that pretend to be righteous.

More than one million Kenyans in 13 counties were facing starvation as a result of drought, with Turkana being one of the most affected areas.
