Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua Secures Sh50 Billion worth of Investments from International Donors
Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has secured investment deals worth billions of shillings following a meeting with development partners on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by representatives of various partners including ambassadors, head of missions, head of United Nations bodies, heads of international funding organizations and global and continental development banks among others.
Speaking after the talks, Governor Mutua said his team was able to secure investment commitments worth Sh50 billion, which will be injected into different development projects in Machakos County.
“I am very pleased with the large turnout and the fruitful discussions. We highlighted our development agenda, our many successes and the massive remaining gaps which require funding so as to fully achieve our program of poverty eradication and economic growth in all sectors,” Mutua said.
During the meeting, Mutua wooed the development partners to help his administration in construction of mega-dams, sinking of boreholes, elevated steel tanks, solar powering systems as well as the construction of dikes to address the problem of water shortage in the county.
On healthcare, Mutua sought partnership in cancer prevention and management, disaster preparedness, blood management system, community health strategy and advanced training for healthcare workers.
USAID deputy program officer, Stephen Fitzpatrick said the agency will partner with Machakos County government to support healthcare, education and food security strategy.
Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) representative Jared Mark said the UN body will support the county in addressing food security and nutrition matters.
“We have established a desk in the county to ensure partnership programs yield the desired results. We assure the governor of our support in supporting agriculture and food security initiatives,” he said.
World Bank, AMREF and World Vision were also represented in the negotiations.
