Kenyan Immigration Department Announces Changes in Passport Application Process

John Wanjohi Aug 25, 2019

The Immigration Department says Kenyans applying for passports will henceforth be required to first book appointments before visiting processing centers.

In a notice on Sunday, the department said passport applicants should book appointments through the e-citizen portal.

The department further directed Kenyans who had already made applications for passports online to revisit the e-citizen portal to book appointments.

After making applications online, passport applicants are required to visit processing centers in person to have their biometrics captured.

The department said the new move aims at addressing congestion in immigration stations by ensuring only applicants with appointments are served.

The exemption will be made to public officials with urgent assignments abroad, sick persons, students and business executives with urgent engagements abroad, the department said.
