How Kenyan-Based Dutch Billionaire Tob Cohen was Brutally Killed in His Own House
Kenyan-based Dutch billionaire Tob Cohen was tortured before he was killed, Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti said.
Addressing reporters shortly after Cohen’s decomposed body was retrieved from an underground water tank on Friday; Kinoti divulged that the tycoon was killed in his own house.
“It is a gruesome murder; they took their time to kill innocent Cohen. He was bound; legs, hands, and neck before he was murdered and then they hid him in an underground water tank. They took their time,” said Kinoti.
The body of the business mogul was found inside an underground tank at his home in Kitisuru, Nairobi nearly two months after he was reported missing.
Police have so far arrested two suspects in connection with the Dutchman’s killing. Police said Cohen’s estranged Kenyan wife Sarah Wairimu Kamotho is the prime suspect, while the identity of the other suspect is yet to be revealed.
Wairimu, who was arrested on August 28th, was arraigned in court to face murder charges on Thursday but did not take plea. The court ordered she undergoes a mental assessment.
“These people are heartless, absolutely heartless. If it’s money or even domestic strive, can’t move anybody to move to that extent,” said Kinoti, adding that more suspects are set to be arrested.
“We never wanted to leave anything to chance, widened out the net to make sure this crime is not covered at all. There is no perfect crime.”
71-year-old Cohen went missing on July 19th, 2019. Before his disappearance, Cohen and Ms. Wairimu were embroiled in a bitter divorce case involving a multi-million-shilling property.
On July 12th, 2019, Cohen filed an assault case against his estranged wife, where he cited continuous harassment and denial of his conjugal rights.
Cohen, a tour and travel tycoon, lived in Kenya since 1987.
