John Wanjohi Sep 15, 2019

Kenya’s Geoffrey Kamworor is the new world record holder for fastest run Half-Marathon by a male athlete.

Kamworor clocked 58:01 on Sunday to win the Copenhagen Half-Marathon, breaking the previous world record held by his compatriot Abraham Kiptum. Kiptum set the record in Valencia last year after crossing the finish line in 58 minutes, 18 seconds.

This was 26-year-old Kamworor’s first 13.1-mile race since November 2014 and is now eying victory at New York Marathon on November 3rd.

Another Kenyan, Bernard Kipkorir came second in Sunday’s International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Gold Label road race, finishing in 59:16 while Ethiopia’s Berehanu Wendemu Tsegu settled for bronze in 59:22.

2018 Tokyo Marathon champion Birhane Dibaba Adugna of Ethiopia won the women’s race in 1:05:57, shedding about two minutes off her previous personal best.
