John Wanjohi Sep 24, 2019

Murdered Dutch businessman Tob Cohen was on Tuesday finally laid to rest at the Jewish cemetery in Nairobi.

Sarah Wairimu, the estranged wife of Cohen and who is accused of killing him, was among mourners who attended the tycoon’s burial.

Wairimu was escorted by prison officers to the cemetery located on Wangari Maathai Road shortly before 3 am.

Holding a white handkerchief, Ms. Wairimu was seen wiping her tears as priests performed final rituals in line with the Jewish traditions.

"Those who killed Tob to stop pretending to be sheep,” The Star quoted Wairimu as saying.

The casket carrying Cohen’s remains was lowered into the grave a few minutes to 5 pm.

Some of the prominent personalities who were present include former government spokesperson Muthui Kariuki, President Kenyatta's cousins Ngengi Muigai and Captain Kung'u Muigai as wells as lawyers Cliff Ombeta and Philip Murgor.

Members of the Kenyan Jewish community and officials from the Dutch Embassy in Nairobi were also in attendance.

The interment was initially set to take place on Monday but was postponed to Tuesday after organizers failed to find 10 Jewish priests and a Rabbi to bury him.

Sources said Cohen was high up in the Jewish religious hierarchy and it would take the presentation of 10 priests each with their own verse to bury him, according to Citizen TV.

Cohen, who had lived in Kenya for 32 years, was found dead on September 13th and his body dumped inside an underground water tank at his home in Kitisuru, Nairobi.

The 71-year-old tours and travel tycoon had been missing since July 19th.
