A Kenyan woman has forgiven and withdrawn assault charges against her husband who stabbed her several times early this year.

On Monday, Ms. Peninah Wangechi told Karatina Principal Magistrate Alice Mwangi that she had forgiven her husband, Samuel Ndirangu and wants to withdraw the charges facing him.

Ndirangu stabbed his wife 17 times at their home in Karatina, Nyeri County using a kitchen wife in April this year.

Ms. Wangechi told the court that she made the decision on her own free will and that she was not threatened or coerced into dropping charges against her husband. She also said they no longer live together with the accused.

Magistrate Mwangi granted the request and released Mr. Ndirangu.

Wangechi, a mother of three, sustained stab wounds on her back, chest, and face following a domestic fight with her husband. She was admitted at Karatina Sub-county Hospital where she was successfully treated and discharged after about a week.

The suspect turned himself in after the attack and was detained at Karatina Police Station before being arraigned.
