Retired President Mwai Kibaki Not Admitted to Hospital, Aide Says
Mwai Kibaki’s aide has dispelled reports claiming that the retired president is currently admitted to the hospital in Nairobi.
Speaking to Daily Nation, Kibaki’s private secretary Ngari Gituku allayed fears about the 88-year-old former president’s health status, noting that he was at Nairobi Hospital on Monday for a routine medical check-up.
“It was a normal visit and there is nothing new,” said Gituku.
He added: “At his age and stature, they can check anything (during routine medical trips), including the hair follicle, the prostrate and eyesight.”
Kibaki’s visit to Nairobi Hospital came on the same day his predecessor Daniel Arap Moi was readmitted to the same facility.
Moi’s press secretary Lee Njiru said the 95-year-old was taken to hospital for his routine examination adding that he was “alert and conscious of his surroundings.”
In August 2016, Kibaki underwent an operation at Netcare Sunninghill Hospital in South Africa to remove a blood clot in a vein in his neck.
Kibaki is set to celebrate his 89th birthday on November 15th.
