Retired President Moi Re-admitted to Nairobi Hospital

John Wanjohi Nov 11, 2019

Retired President Daniel Arap Moi has been re-admitted to Nairobi Hospital barely two days after he was discharged.

Moi was taken back to hospital on Saturday for “routine medical check-up”, his press secretary Lee Njiru confirmed in a statement.

Njiru indicated that the 95-year-old former president was under the care of a professional medical team led by his personal physician Dr. David Silverstein.

“He is in a VIP wing, a homely setup, to facilitate continual checkups and necessary treatment. I appeal to the press fraternity not to cause unwarranted alarm by exploiting the credulity of the masses,” said Njiru.

Moi was discharged from the same hospital on Thursday after two weeks in the hospital. He was allowed to go back home after doctors gave him a clean bill of health.

Last week, Moi’s family rubbished reports that the former president was in critical condition at the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU), saying he was “alert and conscious of his surroundings.”

“The true position is that Mzee Moi is in hospital being attended to by a professional medical team led by his personal physician, Dr. David Silverstein. He is alert and conscious of his surroundings,” said Njiru.

“However, the family is at the same time displeased with the negative and alarmist reports being peddled by unfeeling individuals and consequently published by sections of the media.”

Njiru said Moi has recurring chest complication that affects his breathing. This is the fourth time Moi has been taken to the hospital in less than two months.
