Gov’t Opens Probe into Kenya Qatar Diaspora Sacco over alleged Mishandling of Members’ Deposits

John Wanjohi Nov 11, 2019

The government has placed Kenya Qatar Diaspora Sacco Society under scrutiny following allegations of mismanagement of members’ funds.

In a Gazette notice on Friday, acting commissioner for Co-operative Development Geoffrey Njang'ombe said a probe into the allegations had been launched and a report will be filed with his office in two weeks.

The society has offices in Nairobi and Qatar and mainly targets Kenyan immigrants working and living in the Gulf state.

The Sacco was founded by automotive engineer and churchman Habakuk Wamududa (chairman), Pastor Emmanuel Mbadi (vice-chairman), and engineer Boniface Mbugua (treasurer). The society is expected to provide books for audit.

“I authorize the assistant director of co-operative audit Nelson Nyaga and principal co-operative officer Fenn Nzovu, both from Nairobi to hold an inquiry into operations of the Kenya Qatar Diaspora Sacco Society within fifteen days,” read the notice.
